Meridians - Energy channels

It is of utmost importance for our health and well-being that our vital energy "qi" and our blood are able to flow freely through the body without any areas of congestion. Qi and blood flow through the meridians. These build a system which reaches every part of the body.

The external channels are referred to as the 12 Principal Meridians and are divided into 6 yin and 6 yang meridians. The meridians correspond to the organs' functional entities (zang fu) through the internal channels.

The qi flows through this meridian system and an energetic harmony ensues. It is possible to access the qi through the acupuncture points. All forms of TCM treatments influence the qi and the blood circulation in the meridians and organs.

The blockage of energy can be compared to a dam in a river. The river can only continue to flow freely if the dam is removed, in this case by means of acupuncture.
